Healthy Cooking For
One
Many of us live alone for a variety reasons. Maybe your
young and just starting out. Or maybe your a student living in
a dorm or residence.
You maybe somone who has been recently divorced or widowed.
Living alone has it's advantages and downsides, but one thing
many folks don't realize is how challenging healthy cooking
for one can be. The general public, particularly if they
are just starting out, can't afford to eat out all the time,
and you can just eat so many microwave T.V. dinners. At last ,
you are going to need to cook a real meal. Try some of the
following tips if you end up cooking for yourself.
Common
Issues
One of the largest objections from people who live alone is
the fact that most recipes that you find in books or somewhere
else are engineered to feed at least 4. You may ask why they do
not just half or quarter the ingredients, but if you have ever
attempted to do so, you'd know that it isn't as simple as it
sounds. You can finish up with more grief than you started
with.
A straightforward solution to this would be to prepare the
full recipe, and freeze what you do not plan to eat. This may
not only save you from being forced to waste uneaten portions,
but it'll also save you from being forced to plan a meal later
on. Another problem with healthy cooking for one also has to do
with leftovers. It's easy to become bored in eating the same
thing frequently again.
Even if you freeze your leftovers, you might find yourself
becoming bored with the same dish. This problem can be solved
with a little creativity. You can eat the same entre for 2
nights in a row without sacrificing variety. If you change the
way it is prepared or served every time, it'll feel just like a
very different meal. Healthy cooking for one also becomes a
challenge when you are at the market. Often times, you find
better deals on food items when you buy them in bigger
quantities. This is particularly true in the case of canned
products, for example fruits ad veg.
Though it kind of feels like you're getting a bargain when
you purchase the bigger cans, when you think about the
remaining food that is wasted, it just does not make sense.
Though purchasing the smaller amounts does not appear
extraordinarily cost effective, at least you will be getting
your dollars worth by finishing it all. You will also avoid
feel guilty about wasting food all the time. It is also simple
to skip meals because you do not feel a bit like healthy
cooking for one.
Occasionally you might think its better to just eat junk
food since there's no-one else to cook for. Clearly , this is
an unhealthy habit to get into. If you do surrender to the
enticement to skip cooking meals, ensure you have some healthy
nibbles available so you do not have to feel guilty about
stuffing your face with fast food. If you're new to it, healthy
cooking for one could be a bit tricky. However, with
some of these helpful tips and a little bit of expertise,
you'll catch on to it in no time.
